Pi Network’s upcoming update will dramatically improve the ecosystem

The Pi ecosystem has expanded its OS capabilities beyond Windows and Mac with the release of Node software for Linux. The move aims to strengthen the decentralization of the project, for which the team is also preparing for a major protocol upgrade from version 19 to 23.

The introduction of a third alternative OS will provide greater flexibility for developers and partners. Until now, many of them had to rely on custom node builds to run the Pi infrastructure. Now they can switch to standardized node software, which should allow for faster maintenance and smoother protocol upgrades and overall network consistency.

The upgrade from version 19 to 23 is considered the most ambitious for the protocol to date. It is influenced by Stellar and is aimed at expanding functionality and improving management levels. The implementation will take place in several stages to minimize disruptions to work.

  1. The Testnet1 upgrade began last week, there may be some minor disruptions as the new community node container is deployed.
  2. Testnet2 and Mainnet updates will follow in the coming weeks, moving the entire ecosystem to protocol version 23.
  3. Short-term outages may also affect centralized exchanges (CEXs) as they adapt to the upgrade.

This update also aims to address specific issues related to KYC, which has already received some backlash from the community.

Perhaps due to these changes in the Pi ecosystem, native token protocol was one of the few to end the week in the plus. Unlike other altcoins, PI added more than 5% to $0,37 over the week.

However, soon token may face increased selling pressure due to the large number of token unlocks scheduled for September 2 and 6.
