The US government continues to fight the already closed exchange Garantex, accusing it of conducting large illegal transactions. The US State Department and Treasury Department announced new sanctions against the Russian platform.
Now authorities have offered a reward of up to $6 million for information on the leadership Garantex. $5 million will be given for information about Russian citizen Alexander Mir Serda. Another $1 million is offered for information about other top managers of the site. The US State Department calls on anyone with reliable information to contact the Secret Service via secure channels.
At the same time, the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) re-included Garantex on the sanctions list. Grinex, a newly created exchange that is believed to be its successor, was also included. OFAC also imposed sanctions on three executives Garantex and six affiliated companies in Russia and Kyrgyzstan, effectively cutting them off from the U.S. financial system.
According to US investigators, between April 2019 and March 2025 Garantex processed at least $96 billion in cryptocurrency transactions, with a significant portion of those transactions believed to be related to criminal activity.
